The vast sky of the western desert and mountains is a palpable presence. Inspired by the way that traditional photographic negatives transform light into substance, I began digitally inverting the tonalities of my photographs of the open sky, while maintaining the original colors. Light horizons become dark, sun flares turn black, dusk skies fade to a breath of light blue.

Photographed on 4x5 transparency film, and printed on rag paper in editions of 3 plus one AP.
